Position: Social Worker - Investigative, Assessment, and Treatment - Family and Children’s Services Units
Job Description: Employee in this position receives reports, initiates, investigates, identifies, and provides child welfare services to any child who is alleged to be abused, neglected, and/or dependent, as defined by law. Develops with the family, formal plans to eliminate conditions of abuse, neglect, and/or dependency. Facilitates movement in and out of the legal system, including immediate removal from the home, children identified as being in danger. Supervises and monitors such children who are in out-of-the home placement and counsels with parents to expedite child’s return to the home. Assesses family situations and prepares for the court, court-ordered home studies. Plans resources and other support services in conjunction with other agencies to promote maintenance of the family unit. Experience using Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.) required.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
§ MSW – Child Welfare Collaborative (child welfare positions only); or
§ MSW plus one year of directly related experience; or
§ BSW – Child Welfare Collaborative plus one year of directly related experience; or
§ BSW plus two years of directly related experience; or
§ 4-year degree in a human services field plus three years of directly related experience; or
§ 4-year college or university degree plus four years of directly related experience.
(All MSW and BSW must be from accredited School of Social Work in accredited colleges or universities. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.)
Preference: Applicants with BSW degree to MSW degree and social work experience.
Salary Range: $39,994.00 - $62,377.00 Annually
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment, and investigation of abuse or neglect of children; thorough knowledge of policies and procedures as evidenced by the ability to cite the authority of federal and state law; thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior, family dynamics, and medical, behavioral and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Ability to interact and motivate a resistant involuntary client population and the public who may not agree with the laws, rules or policies of the process or the programs; ability to prepare documentation such as written investigative reports for the court, case records and treatment plans, ability to testify as an expert witness; ability to employ advanced case management interview techniques to establish a supportive relationship and involve families in the initial assessment for the need of services; ability to quickly assess the risks and safety of the client environment during daylight hours, after dark and in high crime areas; ability to employ expert negotiation skills in the most complex cases; ability to analyze and assess child development safety issues in relation to risk factors; ability to analyze tense family situations and make decisions above removing children when the decision has to be made with limited direct information and limited access to consultation; ability to communicate effectively and establish supportive client relationships. Ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to use Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.). Position Title: Processing Assistant IV 5300.045 Adult Medicaid Unit
Description of Job: The primary purpose of this position is to administer Medicaid and EDTAP transportation services available from the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Completes an initial assessment to determine if customer is eligible to receive transportation services and notifies customer of eligibility status. Monitors customers’ use of services to ensure program guidelines are followed. Retrieves and accesses all appointment messages as well as compiling daily medical appointment report from the WinFax program. Communicates daily by fax and phone with contracted agency to schedule appointments, and on a weekly basis with others providing transportation primarily to out-of-county appointments. Answers general inquires by phone, in person, and through written requests. Makes referrals as needed, explains program requirements and options. Prepares monthly and yearly reports.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) is beneficial.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
· Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or

Position Title: Child Support Agent II (5301.022) Child Support Unit
Description of Job: The primary purpose of this position is to locate non-custodial parents, establish paternity and establish child support orders. Employee conducts interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents. Cases are also reviewed and orders are modified as required by child support regulations. Cases are prepared for legal action when the non-custodial parent is uncooperative. This employee must determine the actions required to negotiate in and out of court and utilize available resources to enforce orders.

Position: Social Worker III 5305.042 Family and Children's Services Unit
Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to provide foster care services to children from infancy to age 18 who have been removed from their home. This position assesses, evaluates and identifies risks to children and determines what immediate action needs to be taken as defined by law. This position assesses the children's needs and develops a plan for service so the children will have a permanent placement within one year. This position will assess the need for diagnostic study and evaluation and medical examinations and facilitates movement in and out of the legal system. This position evaluates the children's placement and supervises the children in the foster home to assure proper care is received. This position provides social casework and other treatment services to facilitate the children's psychosocial adjustment and provides transportation necessary to the provision of foster care services for children when needed and not otherwise available. This position counsels parents and families and monitors their progress with their intervention plan for reunification. This position provides casework services and supervision to children and their family from the time the children are returned to their parents. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or

In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems. Description of Job: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a trainer for the Child Support Unit. This agent requires an in-depth knowledge of child support regulations and procedures. This position will train new and existing staff on problems in the establishment of voluntary and involuntary support and/or obligation and enforcement of orders. This agent must be available to answer questions, resolve problems, and consult with agents regarding regulations, policy, and procedures. This position works closely with the Supervisor to coordinate, monitor, and advise on the completion of work activities within a caseload.
