Courthouse - 224 E. Walnut St. - The old section of the Courthouse was built in 1913 replacing the original one that was built in 1850.  This portion of the Courthouse has undergone 2 renovations, once in 1960 and again in 1998. It measure approximately 24,816 sq. ft and is occupied by Child Support, Guardian Ad Litem, Court Facilities, and various Law Enforcement offices.

Courthouse Annex - 224 E. Walnut St. - The annex portion of the Courthouse was completed and occupied in 1994. It measures around 88,456 sq. ft.  The old Health Dept. Building and the old Sheriff's Building were moved from this site to allow for the construction of this part of the Courthouse.  The ground floor is occupied by the Tax Office and the Register of Deeds.  The first floor is the Clerk of Court and court facilities. Planning, Inspections, Environmental Health, and Courtrooms are located on the 2nd floor. The County Manager, Finance, MIS, D.A.'s  Office, and Courtrooms are located on the 3rd floor.

Sheriff's Office and Jail - 207 E. Chestnut St. - The new Jail and Sheriff's office were built in 1994 and measures around 60,684 sq. ft.


County Administration Building - 209 S. William St. - The County Administration Building was moved to its current location in 1991 to allow for construction of the Courthouse Annex.  The building was originally built to be used as the Wayne County Health Dept. in 1943. It is now used for Veterans Services, and the Board of Elections. It is around 6800 sq. ft.

Will R. Sullivan Building – 111 Ormond Avenue – The Probation offices are located on the 1st floor of this building and the second floor houses Court Counselors and Community Service offices. This was originally the Southern Bell Telephone Building and was built in 1930.  The building was renovated in 1944 and again in 1962, the year it was purchased by Wayne County. For many years, the Wayne County Tax Office was located in this building and was known as the Revenue Building.  In November 2002, the name of the building was changed to honor Wayne County’s second County Manager, Will R. Sullivan, for his many years of dedicated service which started in the Tax Department 

County Office Building – 301 N. Herman St. – The Wayne County Health Department is located on the 1st and 3rd floors of the County Office Building.  Mental Health occupies the 2nd and part of the 3rd floor.  The Social Services Department has offices on the 4th and 5th floors.  All of these departments have annexes in outlying buildings. The County Office Building started out as a hospital in the early 1900’s and was occupied by the County in 1974 after a new hospital was built on Wayne Memorial Drive. 

Wayne Center Complex – 208-210 W. Chestnut St. – Built in 1960. This complex houses the Cooperative Extension Service, Farm Service Agency, 4-H Programs, Water and Soil Conservation.  The main center is rented out for various functions by calling the Cooperative Extension Office at (919) 731-1521.  Every Friday, the Curb Market vendors sell their goods to the public as they have done for the last 40 years.

Economic Development Office – 309 E. Chestnut St. – 3353 sq. ft. - This building was originally built on the Southwest corner of Court Square for the County Extension Agent. At the time it was built in 1938, it was a one-story structure with a full basement. This would later become the Sheriff’s office. The building was relocated to its present location in 1991 and has been completely renovated for the EDC.

Borden Building - 100 S. James St. - 26,458 sq. ft. - This building is being completely renovated to be used as the new Mental Health Building.  Construction began in March 2002 and should be completed by mid-May 2003.  It was originally built in 1914 by the Borden brothers, and has been used in the past as offices for lawyers, doctors, an architect, a drug store, a barbershop, and the Borden Brick and Tile Co. For more than 20 years, the Algonquin Social Club, a dinner and dance club, was located on the 6th floor.  The Borden family donated the building to Wayne County in 1976, and various County departments, including Mental Health, Services on Aging, and Social Services have used it since then.

Genoa Sewer – We employ 1 full-time and 1 part-time operator at the Genoa Sewer plant to maintain 18 miles of sewer lines. They are also responsible for maintaining 2 lift stations at the sewer plant, one at the airport, one at the Landfill, and one at the Old Jail Annex. The plant operator also keeps the grounds and riverbanks around the plant mowed and maintained.  He is also responsible for keeping the Fema lots bought by the County mowed.

Federal Building Renovation – 134 S. John St. - 23,462 sq. ft. - Wayne County purchased the Federal Building in 2001.  It was originally built in 1968 and most recently housed the Social Security Administration, which relocated to a new building. Renovations should by complete by July 2003 for the relocation of Emergency Services and 911.
