Wayne County is served by US Highways 70, 117 and 13, and North Carolina Highways 55, 111 and 581.

NC Highway 117 is being bypassed from Goldsboro, NC to Wilson, NC. Completion date is summer 2006.

US Highway 70 will bypass Goldsboro. Estimated construction start date is 2008.
Goldsboro is 25 miles from US Interstate 95 and Mount Olive is 5 miles from Interstate 40.
Labor Force - Abundant and Skilled
- Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, located in Goldsboro, contributes significantly to the local economy and workforce. The base is the home of the Air Combat Command's 4th Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command Unit, the 916th Air Refueling Wing, and several other squadrons and detachments. While men and women serve at the base, their spouses enter the local workforce, bringing with them a broad range of skills. Almost half of all retirees/separatees decide to remain in Wayne County. You get first call on this vast labor pool of technically skilled and trained employees with an exceptional work ethic.

Wayne Community College, part of a statewide, nationally acclaimed system, provides technical skills such as machining, electronics and aviation technology to hundreds of students every year. In addition, they offer specialized training to industry and businessess, including the FIT (Focused Industrial Training) and NEIT (New and Expanding Industry Training). Wayne County College has a positive effect on the local economy, which is documented in their Economic Impact Statement.

The Eastern Region Economic Development Office, located in Greenville, NC, offers retention and expansion services to companies currently located in North Carolina. They have the responsibility of attracting new businesses and administering the Existing Industry Services program, that is designed to encourage existing companies to expand and grow in North Carolina.

The Business and Industry Service Center provides a one-stop port of entry for companies interested in gaining state assistance and identifying barriers to success. - Corporations Division: This website, maintained by the division of the Secretary of State's Office, offers guidelines to incorporating, fee schedules, printable corporation forms, and much, much more. This office also examines and maintains legal documents filed by more than 400,000 corporations, limited partnerships, and limited liability companies.
- Qualified Business Tax Credit Program: The Division of the Secretary of State's office administers the Qualified Business Tax Credit Program in which investors may obtain tax credits based on money invested in qualified business ventures and in qualified grantee businesses.

- The North Carolina Military Business Center was formed in 2004. The NCMBC assists North Carolina businesses to: secure military contracts, to integrate transitioning (retiring or separating) personnel and families into the workforce. The NCMBC also supports the recruitment and development of defense-related businesses. There is a local office in Goldsboro, NC, at Wayne Community College.
- Matchforce matches North Carolina businesses to government contracts, government purchasers to NC suppliers, and job seekers to NC jobs. Businesses, contracting officers, cardholders and job seekers can register, post, search and receive e-mailed opportunities.
- The Procurement Technical Assistance Center assists North Carolina businesses—including disadvantaged, veteran, and woman-owned businesses—in obtaining and performing under federal, state, and local government contracts. - North Carolina Employment Security Commission - Their mission is to help businesses in North Carolina fill job openings with qualified workers. The division helps employers solve problems relating to worker recruitment, selection and development. Staff also can provide extensive labor market information and training on human resource topics.
- Industrial Extension Service: Based in the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, this agency provides technical and industrial-management assistance to companies. The aim is to help your business increase efficiency, productivity, quality, and, as a result, profits. The website describes extensive products and services for continuing education; industrial and solar energy; environmental, safety, and health management; lean enterprise; construction; and quality. They helped North Carolina companies save $85.6 million in the 2002 calendar year.
- MCNC: This private non-profit corporation offers advanced electronic and information technology resources to business, government, and universities to provide competitive advantages in the marketplace. (Originally known as the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina.)
- North Carolina Biotechnology Center: This private non-profit center assists the state's growing number of biotech companies with funding, work-force and technology assistance.
- North Carolina Community College System - Wayne Community College: This link is a gateway to Wayne Community College. There you will find information on how to start and operate a business, workforce training and post-secondary educational opportunities.
- Small Business and Technology Development Center: Administered by the University of North Carolina, the center provides management counseling and educational services to help NC businesses meet challenges, manage change, and plan for the future. Wayne County is served by the SBTDC office in Greenville. Most services are free of charge, and all SBTDC services are confidential.
- Small Business Center Network: One of the largest small business assistance programs in the nation, providing free counseling, seminars, and resource materials to potential and existing small business owners in over 60 locations throughout North Carolina. The Small Business Center Network for Wayne County is located at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro. Best of all, the services they provide are at low or no direct cost to your business.
- The Small Business Administration aids, counsels, assists and protects the interests of small business concerns. They offer assistance with technical, financial, contracting and disaster recover issues.
