Question: Are all Inmates held at the Wayne County Detention Center guilty of the crime they are charged with ?
- (NO) A majority of the Inmates housed at this facility are pretrial. They have only been charged with a crime and are being held pending release on bond and/or awaiting trial.
Question: When can you visit inmates in the Wayne County Detention Center ?
- Visitation days are Tuesday & Saturday from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
- All visitors must call twenty-four hours in advance to schedule an appointment.
- Visitation appointments are taken on Monday and Friday of each week between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
- Visitors must call (919) 731-1664 to schedule an appointment.
- Each inmate is allowed one visit each week (limit of two visitors per visit).
Question: How and when can Inmates receive money ?
Money may be left for Inmates on Tuesday and Saturdays during visiting hours
Money may also be mailed to Inmates in the form of money orders (personal checks will not be accepted at any time).
Question: What kinds of property can I bring for an Inmate confined in the Detention Center?
- (NONE) Inmates are provided all necessary clothing and personal hygiene items, and they can order other items, such as stamps, envelopes, snacks and etc., from the Detention Center canteen services.
Question: Can you bring medication for the Inmate?
- (YES) Family members can bring medication to the Detention Center for Inmates. However, Medical Personnel will check all medication before being administered to the inmate.
Question: How long can a sentenced Inmate be kept at Wayne County Detention Center?
- Normally, Inmates who are sentenced to ninety (90) days or less will serve that time here at the Detention Center, and a sentence of more than ninety days will be served at the Department of Corrections.
- Inmate that receives an active sentence to be served at D.O.C. are normally transported within 3 to 5 days.
Question: Does the County Detention Center have a Work Release Program for sentenced Inmates?
- (NO) There is not a work release program in place for inmates to be released to work at a civilian job while confined to this facility.
- This facility does have a program that allows an inmate who has been sentenced to serve their time at this facility, to work and receive a reduction on their sentence (four days for every thirty days worked). This work consists of roadside clean up, working in/on other County property, and working as Inmate Trustee in the Detention Center.
Question: Do Inmates have access to telephones while incarcerated at the Detention Center?
- (YES) Inmates have unlimited access to telephones daily, between the hours of 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
- All telephone calls made by Inmates are collect calls, and the person accepting the call will be billed at the local collect rate.
