Honor Guard

Honor Guard

Washington D.C.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard was formed in 1997 by Sheriff Carey Winders and placed under the direction of Lieutenant John Winstead. The squad currently consists of nine members and is commanded during performance by Deputy Tony Morris. All Deputies who serve in the Honor Guard are strictly volunteers who maintain other full-time responsibilities with our agency.

The Honor Guard is a very distinguished unit designed to Honor and show Respect in certain occasions. The Honor Guard participates in such events as Ceremonies for Dignitaries, Parades, Candlelight Vigils for Fallen Officers, and annually attends the National Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony in Washington. The Honor Guard has even been placed in a rotation for the Presentation of Colors at the Carolina Panthers football games. The Wayne County Honor Guard will also conduct graveside services at the ceremony of any Fallen Officer upon the request of the employing agencies Sheriff, Chief or Director.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard has received national recognition for their outstanding dress and flawless performance. The uniforms were custom designed specifically for the Wayne County Honor Guard. Uniforms, travel expenses and other operating costs for this distinguished unit are fully funded by private donations and Honor Guard Fund Raisers. We would like to thank everyone for their support in making the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard such a tremendous success.
