He was arrested at an apartment complex without incident. He is being held in Orlando, Florida until extradition can be arranged for his return to Wayne County. The arrest resulted from information from a reliable source received by Detective Sergeant Tom Flores on January 23, 2007. Coordination with the Orlando and Wayne County Sheriffs Office detectives resulted in his arrest. Below is a brief summary of the events from this shooting.
On Saturday, January 20, 2007, a family was holding a Birthday Party for a One Year Old at Durham Lake Clubhouse on Durham Lake Road, Dudley, NC. There were approximately 50 to 70 people attending the party, including several babies and young children. Attending this party with his wife and three children (Twin boy and girl ages 2 years old, and a baby boy, 8 months old) was Arturo Acevedo Trejo. During this party a group of uninvited Surenas 13 gang members showed up. One of the gang members hit a small child on the top of the head, causing him to cry. The father of the child asked the gang member why he had hit his son. The gang member and his friends began to get belligerent with the child's father, which escalated into a fistfight. Several other fathers joined in to help throw the gang members out of the clubhouse. Approximately an hour or more later, the gang members returned, in a red Hyundia driven by Armando Loredo. A Marco Antonio Reyes Flores, Hispanic male 19 years of age, was armed with some type of semi-automatic assault rifle, possibly a .223 caliber. Marco fired several rounds into the Durham Lake Clubhouse, knowing that there were men, women, and small children, and babies in the building. The car then sped away from the scene. Several people were injured, including a six-year-old girl. However, Arturo Acevedo Trejo was killed. When the shooting began, Arturo's wife, who had been standing next to him, ran to the main hall to protect their children. After the shooting had stopped, she returned to her husband and found him lying on the floor, dead. Armando Loredo has been arrested and charged for First Degree Murder for his role as the driver. Another warrant has been issued for the arrest of Maria Margarita Reyes Flores, sister of Marco, for Accessory After the Fact of a Felony, for helping Marco avoid arrest and escape the State of North Carolina. The investigation is still on-going and other arrests are anticipated. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is requesting assistances with identifying members of this local Surenas 13 gang, including the name and address of a person known only as "Scrappy" and another person known only as "Goofy." Both subjects may live in the Dudley area near US 117 Alternate and O'Berry Road. If anyone has information concerning this tragic event, they are encouraged to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Investigations Bureau, 919-731-1482.
