The Wayne County Solid Waste Department provides for efficient use of a sanitary landfill to further the County's efforts in developing the current and future solid waste disposal. The program disposes of waste in an environmentally sound manner.

Did you know that...
- you can call 705-6542 to report illegal dumping.
- we only accept solid waste that is generated in Wayne County.
- that the $40 Solid Waste User Fee on your tax bill enables you to use the county landfill and recyling and convenience centers to dispose of your household trash. This does not include construction debris(shingles, sheetrock, lumber, etc.), yard waste (leave, limbs, etc.) or unsorted trash.
- there is a Swap Shop located at the Mitchell Road Convenience Center.
- that there are 13 Recycling and Convenience Centers located throughout Wayne County for use by County residents.
- we do not accept any liquids or hazardous waste.
- recycling is manadatory in Wayne County.
- that we do not provide pickup of waste.
Notice: North Carolina State Law and Wayne County code require that vehicles transporting any type of solid waste secure the loads by a cover which will not allow any materials to fall or fly out of the vehicle at any time prior to unloading at a disposal area. All uncovered loads are subject to a $100.00 fine. Your cooperation will be necessary to help solve the problem of solid waste litter in Wayne County.
Some Questions to Ask Yourself:
Is there any chance of debris falling or blowing out of my vehicle? Is my load secured on the bottom, sides and top? Would I want my loaded vehicle driving through my neighborhood? Do I need to drive slower than I normally do? Would I feel safe if I were following my vehicle?
