Wayne County, NC – As of today, the Wayne County Health Department has received notification of 1,234 total positive cases of COVID-19. 76 of these cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and 689 are cases from outside any type of congregate facility. 469 offenders at Neuse Correctional Institute tested positive for COVID-19, but they have recovered as reported earlier this month by NCDPS. 866 of the 1,087 individuals who tested positive are now considered recovered, leaving an estimated total of 347 cases that are currently active in Wayne County.
The health department received notice of one additional death this week. This individual passed away on June 3, 2020 and was in their mid-thirties with no known underlying medical conditions. This death was not attributed to a congregate or long term care facility. The current total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Wayne County is 21.
