Cartridges

Laser & Inkjet Cartridges
Cartridges must be original, not re-manufactured. The following are accepted:
  • Inkjet cartridges - Black and color cartridges are accepted.
  • Laser cartridges - Black only. No color laser cartridges.
To dispose of laser and inkjet cartridges please contact the landfill at 919-689-2994. You may also check the box your cartridge was packaged in and see if they included a pre-paid label to ship back the cartridge at no cost to you.

Some cartridges have market value for re-manufacturing. They are cleaned, refilled, and sold to business wholesalers. Those that cannot be re-manufactured are processed to separate the recyclable materials such as plastics and metals. The plastics and metals are further refined and used to make raw materials, auto parts, and even other electronic products.

Benefits of Recycling
There are 2 major benefits to recycling cartridges:
  • Decreases the amount of non-biodegradable material put into landfills. Printer cartridges can take more than 1,000 years to decompose. According to industry statistics, approximately 80% of cartridges are thrown away.
  • Reduces the amount of limited natural resources required to produce new cartridges. Half a gallon of oil is conserved for every laser cartridge that is recycled. Approximately 2.5 ounces of oil is used for every inkjet cartridge produced and 3.5 quarts of oil used for every laser cartridge produced.
