The Birth Control Pill is a daily oral medication that prevents pregnancy. There are two types of Birth Control Pills that females can take: Combination and Progestin-Only.

Combination pills are the most common type of birth control pills and contain both the hormones estrogen and progestin. You must take your combination pill once a day, but you do not have to take it at the exact same time.

Progestin-Only pills or commonly referred to as the Mini pills, contain only the hormone progestin. These pills must be taken daily within the same 3 hours in order to prevent pregnancy. For example, if a female takes her mini pill at 12:00pm, taking it after 3:00pm the next day puts her at risk for pregnancy.

It is important to use barrier contraceptives like condoms while using this birth control method as it doesn’t protect against STDs nor guarantees pregnancy prevention!
