The Diaphragm is a shallow, bendable silicone cup that a female can put inside her vagina during sexual intercourse. It acts as a barrier by covering the cervix so the sperm and egg cannot meet.
In order for this method to work, spermicide (a cream or gel that kills sperm) must be added into the diaphragm before sex takes place.
Diaphragms come in many different sizes and require a doctor to prescribe the size most compatible to the female patient.
