Commissioner Dr. Joe Democko was appointed to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners in January 2026 to serve as the At-Large Commissioner following the passing of Commissioner George Wayne Aycock, Jr.
Dr. Democko and his wife, Gia, moved to Goldsboro in 1994, where they raised their three children. A Board-Certified Chiropractic Physician, Dr. Democko has served Wayne County residents throughout his career and has been an active member of the community for more than three decades.
He has served on the Wayne County Board of Education, the Wayne Community College Board of Trustees, and the Wayne UNC Health Board. He currently serves as Secretary of the North Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners, appointed by the Senate Pro Tempore, and as Treasurer of the Wayne County Republican Party.
