Long Term Objectives

  • Provide for the continued growth of the County to enrich community life
  • Maintain and enhance the identity and character of Wayne County and maintain good communications with citizens
  • Conserve areas of natural beauty, sensitive environmental areas and important historic places
  • Strive for a balance between residential and commercial development and for a balanced residential mix
  • Encourage economic development, including the creation of new job opportunities and a diversified local economy
  • Provide quality public service, including public safety, and utilities. Provide accessibility for all citizens to educational, recreational and cultural activities through creative planning and improved communications
  • Continue to support Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and the mission that has been given
  • Maintain a stable financial approach, including fees and charges such that new development pays its own way. Maintain a fund balance of 8% or greater
  • Provide a safe, stable workplace for County employees, recognizing they are the County's greatest asset
  • Maintain good intergovernmental relations with other local governments, the Eastern Carolina Council, surrounding counties, the State of North Carolina, and the United States government
  • Work with other local governments and organizations to enhance and improve all areas of Wayne County
  • Maintain, promote, and improve transportation systems for Wayne County
  • Plan ahead for capital improvements
